POWER UP ANNOUNCES IT'S
10 AMAZING GAY WOMEN IN SHOWBIZ FOR 2008
Star studded ceremony to be held in Hollywood, CA, November
9
(Los Angeles, May 7, 2008) POWER UP, the only non profit, volunteer
run, gay studio announced the new 2008 List "10 Amazing Gay
Women in Showbiz" and its awardees. The award recognizes Amazing
Gay Women who are working, creating and changing lives as they continue
their way up the ladder of success. The recipients will receive
their award at the 8th Annual Power Premiere Celebrity Gala November
9, 2008 in Hollywood California.
POWER UP's main purpose has been producing films though its filmmaking
program. POWER UP's successes include having a film as an Official
Selection of the Sundance Film Festival for four years in a row.
The individual success stories that have sprung from the group include
writer/director Angela Robinson (HERBIE: FULLY LOADED), writer/director
Jessica Sharzer (untitled DUSTY SPRINGFIELD project), writer Cherien
Dabis (producer L WORD) writer/director Colette Burson (THE RICHES).
"We have modeled POWER UP after the studio system with all
of the benefits of an independent production company," Founder
and Executive Director Stacy Codikow stated, "bringing together
the best of the best.." Currently POWER UP's first feature
film ITTY BITTY TITTY COMMITTEE is playing the film festival circuit,
winning awards and was theatrically released last year.
"We are extremely proud of POWER UP's many accomplishments
and feel that including the 10 Amazing list allows us to recognize
many more women in our community," stated Lisa Thrasher, president
of Film Production & Distribution. "I'm thrilled to be
recognized by POWER UP. It's an impressive organization that's launching
careers and creating outstanding films along the way," remarked
Samantha Sprecher, Vice President of Development at Face Productions.
"It's an honor to be included on POWER UP's growing list of
such incredible women. If by being out and visible as a successful
professional in the visual effects and animation industry, one more
woman can be inspired to stand among us, I feel an immense sense

Babich is a Co-Creator and Executive Producer/Showrunner of Logo's
new lesbian series GIMME SUGAR. She has produced/directed for NBC,
CBS, WB, Bravo, TCM, TLC and Discovery Channel.
Gaye Ann Bruno, Director, Photography, CBS Television
Network
Bruno produces/art directs series, MOWs, and specials photo publicity
and advertising campaigns. She volunteers her services for the past
9 years to CSW as their VP of Entertainment.
Cheryl Dunye, Writer/Director
MY BABY'S DADDY, STRANGER INSIDE, THE WATERMELON WOMAN. Dunye served
on the boards of Outfest, the DGA, and the IFP.
Karen Flischel, Executive Vice President &
General Manager, here!
Prior to joining here!, Flischel was a driving force at Nickelodeon.
Cableworld magazine recently named Flischel one of their "Women
to Watch" in their "Women in Cable: The Power List"
edition.
