Lacuna
Episode Summary (coming soon)
by Stacy Turner
The opening scene shows Jenny at the strip club dancing. While she is taking
off her clothes she starts to have strange flashbacks but continues to dance.
Shane is outside of the strip club waiting for Jenny. Jenny is surprised
to see Shane and asks he what she thought of her performance. Shane says that
Jenny did a good job, but Jenny tells her that she is lying and that she knows
that she sucked. Shane then asks Jenny why she is stripping and Jenny tells
her because when she is on stage it’s her choice whether or not she
gets naked. She also mentions that it is important to her because it helps
her remember things that happened to her as a child. Jenny then starts saying
that Shane is lucky because she can remember things about her childhood that
caused her not to trust people. Shane asks Jenny if she remembers things that
happened to her and Jenny tells her that sometimes she has memories but she’s
not sure if they are real or not. Shane tells her that she doesn’t have
to strip to deal with her problems and that Jenny can always come to her if
she needs help.
Bette and Tina are getting out of the car talking about the birthing tank
that they bought. As they are walking into a building they see that Helena
is parked in front of the door. Helena says that she needs to speak with Tina
alone, but Bette doesn’t like the idea. Helena gets out of the car and
tells Tina that she needs her to have lunch with her because her mother is
in town. Tina asks her how she found her and Helena tells her that James told
her where they would be. Bette tells her that he knows not to give out her
schedule to which Helena says that he also wants to keep his job, so he told
her. Helena mentions lunch again and Tina tells her that she doesn’t
want to go. Bette reaches for Tina’s hand and they both walk away.
Dana is training and Alice shows up in her car. Dana asks her what’s
up and Alice hands Dana her boxing gloves and tells her that she figured that
Dana forgot them. Alice then asks Dana why she didn’t wake her up and
say goodbye and Dana tells her that Alice knew that she was training. Alice
mentions that it would have been nice if she left a note or something and
Dana apologizes. Dana’s trainer tells her that they need to get back
to work and Alice asks Dana for a goodbye kiss and tells her that she will
wait for her at the Planet. Dana tells her trainer that Alice is acting like
that because she really loves her.
Bette is setting up that birthing tank at her house. They joke around about
how lesbians are supposed to know how to put things together. Tina says that
she wants to have the birth in her home. Bette looks at her confused and then
asks her if she wants to have the baby in her apartment. Tina looks at her
and tells her that she wants to move back into their house so that they can
be a family again.
Helena shows up to lunch to meet with her mother. She is greeted by her children,
and then realizes that her ex wife Winnie is there also. She starts to walk
away but her mother calls her back. Helena asks her mother why Winnie is there
and Peggy says that she wanted to see her and her grandchildren. She mentions
that she heard that things were getting ugly between her and Winnie and lets
her know that she will not stand for that. She then tells Helena that she
is giving one of her estates to Winnie so that the kids can grow up in a place
that they are familiar with. Helena looks really upset but doesn’t say
anything.
Tina walks into her room and finds Bette on the floor looking at pictures
of her father. She begins to cry and Tina comforts her. We then cut to Melvin’s
memorial services. Everyone is there including Kit’s son.
Dana walks up to Lara at the service and starts to flirt with her. Dana keeps
looking over her shoulder at Alice and notices that she is looking rather
jealous. Dana says goodbye to Lara and goes over by Alice and tells her that
she was just telling Lara how wonderfully she was doing her job. Alice then
asks Dana if she wants to move in with her. At first Dana thinks that Alice
is joking, but then she realizes that she isn’t. Dana tells her that
she doesn’t want things to move that fast between them because she had
made that mistake in the past. Alice asks Dana if she is doubting their relationship
and Dana says no. Alice then asks Dana if she wants to see other people and
Dana says no and tells her that is not what she said.
Bette thanks her boss and Leo for showing up to the memorial. Bette tells
them that she would like to take the rest of the week off, but assures them
that she will be back on Monday. Her boss and Leo look at each other and Bette
asks if they have something to tell her. Here boss says that it’s not
the best time and to come in on Monday and they will talk about it. Bette
stops him and says that she would like to talk about it now. Her boss tells
her that Leo has been doing such a good job while they were gone that the
board decided to hire him on full time which means that they wouldn’t
need Bette anymore.
One of the girls from Betty mentions to Mark that they are doing a charity
concert. She asks him to videotape it and he agrees to go and do it.
Shane, Carmen, Jenny, Kit, Alice, Dana, Gloria Steinem and some other women
are sitting around a table at Melvin’s memorial. They start talking
about how people always assume that feminists are lesbians. Kit mentions that
she has never slept with a man but she is definitely a feminist and the girls
laugh. Gloria says that she is predisposed and most of the women around the
table say that they are too. Alice says that she isn’t and that she
follows her heart, not her anatomy and Dana smiles. Jenny says that it is
so hard because some people have a choice and some people don’t. Carmen
picks up her drink and they all make a toast to choice.
Shane and Carmen show up to the benefit concert. Before Carmen can get out
of the car Shane runs around and opens the door for her. Carmen is a little
confused by it and Shane asks if it’s ok that she did that. Carmen tells
her yes but lets her know that she just doesn’t usually get treated
like such a girl. Shane tells her that she isn’t treating her like a
girl she is just treating her. Shane puts her hand out to reach for Carmen’s,
but Carmen nudges her forward and they both laugh.
Helena and Leigh are at the concert and they are getting really close to
each other. Bette walks up to Helena and asks her if she ever really cared
about Tina, because convincing the board to fire her also effects Tina. Helena
tells her that she had nothing to do with it but Bette doesn’t believe
her. While they are standing there Peggy comes up and says hi to Bette. She
asks if she is there alone and she tells her that she is with her partner
Tina. Peggy mentions that Helena was just with a Tina, and makes a joke about
that being a popular lesbian name. Helena then tells her mother that it is
the same Tina. As they are talking Carmen goes up to Bette and whispers in
her ear that Tina needs her help. Bette walks in and discovers that Tina’s
water has broken.
Carmen rushes over to Kit and tells her that good news. Kit gets up to leave
but Carmen tells her that they will have a while until the baby is born and
Bette wanted everyone to stay and enjoy the concert.
Gloria Steinem welcomes everyone to the concert which is to benefit the Ms.
Foundation.
While there is a performance going on Shane leans over and asks Carmen if
she would like to come over after the concert is finished. Carmen doesn’t
answer at first but then tells Shane that she can come over for a little bit.
Alice and Dana are at the benefit and Betty is performing. Alice asks Dana
what she meant by the fact that she didn’t want things to move too fast
and then she mentions that Tonya and Dana moved in together after two days.
Dana tells her that was part of the problem and then tells Alice that she
likes what they have. She tells Alice that she likes her but mentions that
she was freaked out by her actions after her date with Lara. Later during
the performance Alice asks Dana what she meant when she said that Alice freaked
her out. Dana says that after her date with Lara it just seemed like Alice
went a little crazy. Alice gets offended and they continue to argue.
Heart starts to perform and everyone looks like they are having a great time.
Jenny is dancing around at the beginning. By the end she starts to look really
sad and depressed because she can relate to the song so much.
Bette and Tina are at home. Tina tells Bette that she can’t handle
the pain anymore, but Bette reassures her that she can. The nurse is at the
home and asks Bette to help Tina into the birthing tank.
Alice and Dana are leaving the concert and Alice mentions that what Dana
said made her feel bad. Dana says that she was just telling Alice how she
felt, and Alice tells her that it was a good thing. She tells Dana that she
realizes that she has been really clingy with Dana and tells her that she
hates what she has turned into. Dana mentions that it’s not a bad thing,
but Alice tells her that she doesn’t want to smother her. Alice tells
Dana that the worst part about the situation is that she can’t even
call her best friend to talk about it and Dana agrees.
Shane and Carmen are at Shane’s house. Carmen tells Shane that she
is going to leave but Shane stops her and tells her that she wants her to
stay. They hug and Shane tells Carmen that she misses the way that she smells.
They then start to kiss each other and they wind up walking through the house
kissing until they make it to Shane’s bed. Shane and Carmen lay down
and continue to kiss passionately. We cut to see them having sex with each
other. When they are done Shane whispers into Carmen’s ear that she
loves her.
Tina is on the ground in a lot of pain. Bette spots some fluid on the sheet
and asks what it is. The nurse tells her that it means that the baby is in
distress and tells her that they need to give birth at the hospital.
Jenny gets onto a bus and spots a little girl sitting down. As she is looking
at her she starts to have flashbacks of being abused. She sits down next to
the girl and starts to hug her.
Tina is being rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. Bette remains by her
side and tries to calm Tina down. We then shoot to Tina on a hospital bed
having an emergency cesarean section. She tells Bette that it wasn’t
supposed to happen this way. The doctor then holds up the baby and Bette smiles.
She asks if she can cut the umbilical cord but the nurse tells her that it
can only be done by a doctor because of the circumstances. Bette says that
she wants to do it and the doctor allows her to. After she cuts it she hears
Tina say something and asks her what she said. Tina tells Bette that she wants
to name the baby Angelica, and then it looks like Tina is losing consciousness.
Bette gets worried and calls out her name, but Tina is ok.
Jenny is in the bathtub and she starts to pour water on her head. When she
gets out of the bath she goes over to the medicine cabinet and takes out a
razor. Outside Shane is on the phone with someone and she tells them that
her and Carmen will be at the hospital in 20 minutes to see the baby. When
Shane hangs up the phone she hears a weird noise coming from the bathroom
and goes inside. She finds Jenny sitting down cutting her legs. Shane runs
over and takes the razor and cleans her up. Jenny starts to cry and Shane
embraces her in a hug. Jenny tells Shane that she needs to get help, and Shane
tells her that she will help her get some.
Bette is sitting on a chair holding her baby. She gets up and hands the baby
to Kit, and they all pass the baby around. All of them look in complete awe
of the new baby in their life. When it gets back to Bette she tells her daughter
that this is her family.

Music,
including Scene by Scene breakdown by Kace of What
the L Radio!)
And now, a musical look at the Season 2 Finale of The L Word. Call me
crazy, but it didn't feel like a Finale....now I'm just wanting more. Why
must they torture me!?!? *insert dramatic scream here* On with the show!
DSK "Cementhead"
Plays as Shane waits outside in her Pip gear for Jenny. So blurred,
soundwise in the background it's almost hard to make it out. The music
fades out as Jenny explains how she's in charge. Well, if that were true,
you'd be the one paying, not the other way around. I'm just sayin'....
Tony Galla "Ah Comm'e Bella A Stagione"
This plays as Peggy hands daughter Helena her ass on a rusty platter. Too
busy enjoying the scene to pay attention, but it sounds Italian.
Tracey Chapman "Say Hallelujah"
Touching montage to Melvin and moreso to the actor, Ossie Davis himself.
Nicely done, all around.
Mozart "Voi Che Sapete"
Right out of Tracey and playing at the Planet where we say hi to Gloria
Steinam and DANA AND LARA!! WOO HOO!!! The Eternal Struggle is underway
and it appears to be in Full Steam Mode heading for Season 3. Well, that
gives me one thing to look forward to. We also get Bette's "firing"
during
this bit of music. Franklin being a dick is officially confirmed.
Toshi Regon "Ballad Of The Broken Word"
(Note: Toshi Regon is the daughter of Bernice John who is in Sweet Honey In
The Rock--see last song in this episode).
Plays as Mark gets a ticket and we get Elizabeth Ziff wants to sleep with
Gloria and we get the Lecture To Male Viewers About Lesbians And Feminism.
Okay then. This scene convinces me that Shane's a guy trapped in a woman's
body.
Coralie Clement "L'Ombre et La Lumière"
Bossynova, baybeee...... Helena wants Leigh to get pregnant. Hey, if
you're taking volunteers..! We also get Tina leaking in the bathroom
during this. "I wunna make a bay bee." "Let's make a bay bee.."
Le Tigre "TKO"
Carmen tells Kit about Tina's water breaking as Le Tigre is apparently on
stage performing this song. Either that or it's just blaring on the PA.
In any event, the song's interrupted for Gloria's speech.
Quick Note: Gloria's speech is available on The L Word Season 2 Sessions
CD. In case you're wondering, it's a standard jab at GW Bush, which runs
rampant in this series. Memo to the writers: Democrats Suck, Too! Back to
our program...
Kinnie Starr "Buttons"
Spoken Word performance here by Kinnie. Which leads us too...
BETTY "Kissing You"
...a song that kicks several shades of ass. "I don't like kissiinnng
you!!" RRRRRRRRRRRRRROCCCKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I believe this song's
available as a download over at BETTY's website, or at least it was
recently.
Heart "Crazy On You"
Do yourself a favor and get the original version of this on Heart's
Dreamboat Annie CD. I'm sure it's on a Greatest Hits compilation, but
seriously....just get the Dreamboat Annie CD, because it's good like that.
Performed almost immediately after BETTY. Ann & Nancy still rule, but
what's up with Zelda The Brain playing keyboards?
Federico Aubele "Esta Noche"
My, Carmen's flexible. Shane and Carmen are in bed and giving us a sneak
peak at Showtime's Late Night entertainment.
Sweet Honey In The Rock " Testimony"
(originally by Ferron)
This plays at the end as the Group Of Friends say hello to little Angelica
Portard (okay, I'm hoping they don't go with that last name as jokingly
hinted at in Season 1). Nice and peaceful way to end off a crazy ass
Season 2 as we go to the credits. Just didn't feel like a Finale,
'cause...I don't know. No big dramatic ending, I guess. But given the
characters, this ending's a good thing for them. Season 3's a ways away,
so enjoy the reruns and then in 2006, we'll do it all over again.
Special thanks to Jacky and L-Word for letting me contribute these little
musical rants. 'Twas fun. Hope you enjoyed reading 'em.
See ya.
